The hospital was founded on September 20, 1987, as a private company converted into a public limited company on October 12, 1989. The first Shifa office was opened in the residence of Dr Zaheer Ahmad in the F-8/3 sector of Islamabad. Later, he was transferred to a rental property located in the Blue Zone (commercial building in Islamabad) and the office building was finally built in January 1988.
The construction work for the site preparation for the foundation of the hospital began in early 1988. The foundation ceremony was held on October 6, 1989 by the parents and the wishes of the sponsors and their dedicated team of colleagues and good people.
The idea of developing a first-class medical facility in Pakistan was developed in mid-1985 in New York (USA). Initiator Dr Zaheer Ahmad, who had just finished his Internal Medicine Residency, called a meeting at his apartment in Brooklyn, New York. He met with five professionals who discussed the idea in detail and who approved it. The participants have dr. Manzoor H. Qazi from Leesville, Louisiana, Muhammad Zahid from Kew Gardens, New York, Samiullah Sharief from Brooklyn, New York Sabir Ali from Palm Bay, Florida; Zaheer himself, dr. Zaheer Ahmad asked to prepare the sustainability report and the action plan. So dr. Zaheer Ahmad moved to Islamabad on December 17, 1985, to start working on this project.
After long discussions and numerous meetings, the current website of the capital, Islamabad, was selected for this project. The name SHIFA has been affirmed due to its integrity as a result of our culture, beliefs and values.
After acquiring more than 11 hectares of land in Islamabad in 1987, CRI, a hospital development company based in Princeton, New Jersey, was responsible for the development of the plan and design. of the project. The chief architect of CRI, William Parker, led the team on the Islamabad website, except to visit other hospitals in Pakistan. The IRC completed its work in 1989.
