My father age 76 years and he is been diagnosed Parkinson disease and was prescribed to take following medicines (also attached). MRI is also attached.
Sinemet PK Merz 100 mg Contine 10 mg
Could you please advise or suggest how long these medicines should be taken as he is taking them since then (April this year) and not getting any benefit. My father is also a diabetic patient and on insulin. Please advise.
These medications are on very low dose and you need a reevaluation An increase in the doses warranted and these treatments in Parkinson disease continue for a lifetime with adjustments according to the patient condition
Lifelong . But if no improvement thn talk to your doctor who has prescribed for dose adjustment . Also note any symptom of difficult walking or unrinary incontinance. Get neurosurgery opinion if its NPH
Your father needs a face to face consultation with a neurologist so that a definitive diagnosis can be made. You haven’t described his symptoms. Is he falling and has urinary inconvenience? Then he might have Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus and not Parkinsonism. His MRI is consistent with Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus. If he actually turns out to have Parkinsonism then he would need a bigger dose of Sinemet. And for life.
