Asking for Sister, Female, 29 years old, Karachi

Hi esteemed docs , psycologist and psyciatrist, My relative was diagonsed with Schizoaffective Disorder, she is hearing voices and seeing visuals, she is now on medication properly with followup check ups. My question to all sincere psycologist and psyciatrist is that how we as family members can help her in recovering and help in eliminating these delusions and hallucinations. Please give all practical and possible advice, we really want her to recover and have a good life. Please note this is a general question, I am not asking for appointments, treatment etc as she is already getting it, Thanks a bunch.

First of all family and social support has a vital role in management of all kinds of patients. For overcoming delusions and hallucinations proper use of medicine and followup with psychiatrist is considered important. Please do not criticise in any situation, this is not the patient’s fault nor the family’s. Encourage the patient to carry out her daily routines and help her in understanding and solving her issues. Encourage her to have social interaction and try to involve her in all family gatherings etc. This all will help in favour of good prognosis.

Welcome, inspire of on active treatment she has active psychotic symptoms which may be due to some factors one may be due to severity or disease, treatment resistance, patients poor drug compliance, need to see the type of medications, medicine doses and combinations, incomplete remission has different treatment strategies, as for as family support is concern, which would work when patient is symptom free or sufficient control of symptoms, these type of patients need continued family support to motivate the patient to take medication on time, visit doctor as per schedule, have food deep st night good diet on time, engage patient in day to day schedule from patients learned skills. Thanks
