Asking for Self, Male, 26 years old, Lahore
I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia. I have been receiving clozapine for the last 3 months. For the last 3 weeks I was receiving clozapine at 550mg per day along with Galantamine at 12mg/day. I was told that clozapine therapy would improve my memory issues and brain fog, however, it has not improved my memory and brain fog. After some research, I have been thinking of taking modafinil at 200mg/day to improve my memory and brain fog. Is appropriate for me to take modafinil?
hi
the symptoms you have been mentioning could very well be linked to clozarel(clozapine) its drug used for resistant schizophrenia and should not be used as first line due to potential serious side effects on heart blood , tremors salivation wt gain and many more..this drug need very careful monitoring.
simultaneous prescription with Galantamine can add on to it as this is mainly used in old dementia people, fog clouding , blurred vision etc can be linked to this as well .You must not take a drug to counter side effects of other drug.please stop taking Galantamine and discuss with your prescriber why not to consider olanzapine, quetiapine as antipsychotic in place of clozapine.
i will not suggest using Modafanil for above as you don't want more serious side effects .There is no indication of use of this tablet.Dr.Kashif Ijaz Ahmad

Please cotact to your psychiatrist for any modifications in treatment as there are numerous drug interaction are involved resulting in serious consequences Further your symptoms may be the expression of your original disease schizophrenia

hi
i have seen very few patients probably only 2 in 20 plus years on this drug and that was severe narcolepsy. This is specialist prescribing. This drug itself has lot of side effects.i agree with Dr Tariq there is strong possibility your symptoms might be linked with your mental health illness.Though my experience in psychiatry is fairly limited as well.
there is useful patient info about this drug by guys NHS trust

I have had memory issues, brain fog and thought blocking for the last 4 years. My memory issues, brain fog and thought blocking began way before intake of clozapine and galantamine. Before clozapine therapy I had three at-least-8-week-long trials of aripiprazole, ziprasidone and paliperidone. These trials did not improve my symptoms. Taking clozapine, however, only partially improved my thought blocking. It did not improve my memory issues or brain fog. Therefore, in light of my background history is it still recommended that I take a trial of modafinil. Please reply ASAP.
