My son is 1.5 years old. Since 5 days he has sore throat and fever. Doctor said it's viral infection caused by herpes simplex and prescribed acylex syrup thrice a day. Now it's 3rd day of medication but still he is not willing to take food. Not even liquids or semi solids. Losing weight. I m much worried about his health.

Herpesvirus causes visible sores in the mouth which are mostly in the anterior part, on the lips and tongue, along with swelling of gums. If the sores are mostly in the posterior part, on the soft palate, the virus causing it is Coxsackie which has no specific treatment and acyclovir containing medicines are not helpful. If you could take a picture and upload it by tapping + sign above, it will help in diagnosis. In the presence of sores in the mouth the child cannot take salted or spicy foods. He can tolerate sweet and chilled juices and cold soft foods better especially ice cream. At times when food intake is very poor admission to a hospital and fluids and nutrition through veins are needed.
