Talk to Pediatrician on Persistent Fever

person-avatar

Asking for Self, Male, 3 years old, London

My son is having fever since 8 days. He is taking penicillin since 5 days after tonsillitis diagnosis. His fever was reaching upto 39.5. But now the concerning thing is, he is still having fever. After giving him calpol, his temp comes back to normal. But after 1-1.5 hrs, his body temp starts rising and in 5-6 hrs, it becomes fever. I am extremely worried about his fever.

I took him to dr again yesterday amd he said his throat is mild red now and neck is fine. But I am so worried about his health.

Can someone guide me on this please

Fever is generally a sign of an infection. Common causes are viral illnesses, it should settle in a week time.

If fever persists beyond this then needs reassessment to rule out other infections such as Urine infection, chest infection or othere rare causes.

I tool him to dr again today. His body temprature kept fluctuating between normal and below fever and became fever after 24 hrs. They did a blood test which was fine. They said inflamation counter is only 25 which can be meant either his infection is getting fine or it might be viral. They also did a throat swab because his throat is still red and pussy.
