Asking For Other, Male 7, Rawalpindi

Assalamu alaykum. My son age 7 years 3 months had very severe loose motions with vomitting and 103.6 fever last Sunday morning. Took him to emergency and he was given 2 injections. Then he was advised cefim motilium brufen and enflor.he was given only banana yogurt and khichrii rice. After 3 or 4 days first hard solid formed stool came. But immediately after starting normal routine diet and leaving medications he again had loose stools not very severe but cramps with in complete evacuation and urgency. He keeps running to toilet repeatedly and remains seated on flush for too long. Sometimes no stool just cramps but sometimes only unformed watery loose stool. Kindly advise if it's ibs diarrhea or some tests need to be done. Yesterday we again took him to emergency and advised ulsanac half table spoon twice a day empty stomach and spaslor c full teaspoon twice. Only banana yogurt and khichrii again. Child is too weak.

Diarrhoea does not need to be treated with antibiotics in an otherwise healthy child. Those may even prolong diarrhoea. What doctors should worry about in diarrhoea and vomiting is water loss or dehydration. ORS is the main treatment in such a condition. If there is fever paracetamol may be used on as required basis. Avoid sugary fluids such as commercial juices and even commonly suggested 7Up. Continue the diet you are giving. If the condition persists, get a fresh Stool Routine Examination done.

Paracetamol helps in abdominal pain, as well.

Diarrhoea is a self limiting disease. If he passes a large watery stool, give your child about a glassful of ORS to drink slowly. If your child is well and passing adequate urine, you do not need to worry. If, however, you continue to worry, get a Stool Routine Examination done for him on a fresh sample.
