Asking for Other, Male, 1.5 years old, Faisalabad
My son is 1.5 months old. His left kidney is multi cystic. Right kidney is normal. Doctors says the left kidney will shrink with time or have to go for surgery to remove the defected kidney. What are the chances in such cases that kidney will shrink itself? His belly seems little bit large but he urinates normal. And what precautions should we have to take for his healthy life? We are worried about his future life.
without surgery it will cure don't you worry its treatable completely inshallah you must have an appointment confidently
Usually multicystic dysplastic kidney doesn't need any surgical treatment. as this kidney shrinks and disappear till 5 years of age. however in very few children various symptoms occur, like high blood pressure, urinary tract infections or VUR. if symptoms appear you need to consult a pediatric Surgeon or pediatric urologist. otherwise just watch n wait
Salam alaikum. His right kidney is normal and it’s a big blessing in itself . There are millions of people in this world who are born with single kidney and spend their entire life normally. So no need to worry for future. I think in your baby case I need to know what’s the size of the kidney which is affected. Surgical intervention is indicated if size is more than 7 cm and causing pressure symptoms on stomach, causing pain, or associated with other problems such as high BP. He needs at least 6 monthly follow up ultrasound from the same place with correct measurement of size of kidney. Right now main priority is the right kidney. We want to keep it healthy and protected. Thanks
