Asking For Mother, Female 61, dubai
AOA, my mother had a stroke in August 26th, and has been trying to recover. Her right side is weak. There are 2 issues we are facing continous, she has a cold nose and is always a runny nose. I have tried giving her claritine, but doesn't work much, especially when she has food her nose starts dripping. I had read about artificial sugar aggregating allergies, could this be one, if not is there any solution to this. She has limited mobility, and had partial dysphagia, cannot swallow much especially drinking water. Secondly, her bowel movement has been a challenge, earlier she was dependant on laxatives for bowel movement, however not sure how she gets a bowel movement, however her stool is hard. Can I use Miralax in her condition. I have tried Enema, doesn't work much, but its tough using it. Apparently a suppository doesn't work much. Someone told me that they may require a physical removal of stool. but that would be really painful, is there an alternative. thankyou Jazakallah.
W. Salam,
Does she cough during eating/swallowing? Or have you ever noticed water coming back from the nose, while drinking? If yes, then the problems are with the swallowing and she needs a swallowing assessment done.

Dear Dr Sajid, thankyou for writing back. she does have dysphagia but I did a chest xray just to rule out any dysphagia. she does not cough while eating/drinking but finds it difficult to eat. she tries to gobble alot of food at a time. she doesn't realise the food getting accumulated in her mouth.
not sure why her nose keeps running.
