Leg pain that is radiating from compression of lumbo-sacral nerve roots is known as sciatica. The compression or pinched nerve is caused by a herniated or displaced disc in the lower back. This is usually caused by lifting heavy weights or poor posture. The pain is initially in the back and later moves to one or the other leg where it causes shooting or electric shock like pain down the distribution of the sacral 1 root. This is in the back and lateral aspect of the lower leg moving down to little toe where it causes feelings of pins and needles. For understand how to deal with your low back pain please see my You Tube video about dealing with low back pain. It is under the title « Specialist Clinic « . Or you can google my name ( Dr Iftikhar Khawaja).
