The number of days is always variable with different women normal it can be 4 to 7 days . The cycle can range from 21 to 35 days. Harmonal imbalances can be a reason for menstrual irregularities, or any biological reason like fibroids or cysts or any other pathology to the genital tract

-woman having different causes of genetics,family history, Physiology, risks factors like hormonal imbalance, diabetes, obesity, thyroid abnormalities, local pathology like fibroids, polyp, cx pathology etc.
-at age of 40 periods could be 4-8 days but heavy, frequent flow with or with out Clots need to be Evaluated.
-periods irregularities also need to be sorted out and other symmptoms like bone pain, hot flushes along with scary periods need to be checked could be early menopausal symptoms.
-check for any of the above.
-stopping if periods in late age depends on family history as well.
