Asking for Self, Female, 37 years old, Rawalpindi
I had a transsphenoidal surgery for acromegaly adenoma. My tumor has been removed and my latest MRI shows no further adenoma. but it's been four months my HGH has decreased significantly. It was 50 before surgery and 1.5 after surgery but my igf-1 is still 397. My surgeon and endocrinologist both think I don't need sandostatin at this level. I just want to take opinion of other endocrinologist here too. what do they suggest? is 396 igf-1 safe and it doesn't have any side effects on my organs? can this elevated igf-1 cause tumors if left untreated?
I have given you the reply you may ask from endocrinologist also he can give you best reply
Em not a endocrinologist. Kindly consult an endocrinologist
since tumor has been removed and the Insulin like growth factor is not too high, they are right, that you don't need sandostatin at this time.
high levels of igf-1 post surgery may indicate
micro tumour deposits left behind and require sandostatin to suppress them because it is always not possible to remove 100% tumor by surgery.please consult your operator and an endcrinologist.

Sir can these micro deposits be seen in follow up MRI. Attached is my follow up MRI. Whenever I post this question to endocrinologist it's somehow directed to General Surgeon.
