Asking for Other, Female, 5 years old, KSA
My daughtr have lateral deviation since one year, using opticals regularly since then. But no improvment in deviation and eyesight is getting more wek.. can we go for deviation surgery at this stage? Is surgery a better option at the age of five? What r pros n cones of surgery? Kindly guide Thanks
Surgery is an option but only after it’s advices by Ophthalmolgist
if deviation is not getting better then eye sight and number of glasses should be checked again and if there comes any change in number of glasses then new number is prescribed and see whether deviation gets better or not. only after that the decision of surgery should be made
yes definitely but you should go for proper check up 1st
Dr Shamshad Ali here
Is she having equal vision in both eyes?
Increase in the number for refractive corrections is not the problem.
She must be evaluated properly and firstly she must be treated for lazy eye if found before going for surgical alignment of eyes.

That's good...
This type of squints have good prognosis.

Lateral or outward deviation usually requires surgical management. Is it constant or the eye deviates off and on. Is it present in one only or is it alternating between the two eyes. If with use of glasses the deviation is not improving, go for surgery.

Its alternativ in both eyes & not permanent. Just happen for few seconds & then normal itself

I will prefer to check the patient first to assess the deviation first then may need to do the cycloplegic refraction and decide whether it could be corrected with glasses or surgery
