Asking for Self, Male, 46 years old, Lahore
I have been suffering from nasal polyps for twenty years. I received a surgery in 2002. But it recurred and I tried to control it by using home remedies and casual medicines which proved successful for some years. I avoided second surgery for its tendency to recur. Some years back I consulted a government hospital and they prescribed some sterile type tablets. I felt relief for some time but I started experience acidity. Now polyp has obtained a swollen shape in my left nostril and I feel strain up to my left ear. I also feel noise in my left ear. In summer it is less problematic but in winter it becomes very painful. I have come to know about the laser surgery and fess. I want to know the cost of laser surgery and fess for polyp treatment in Pakistan and which one is better? Who is the most economical and suitable doctor for this purpose in Lahore?

Thank you for posting your query.

Thank you.
I feel sorry for you
I explain to all my nasal polyp patients that after FESS(functional endoscopic sinus surgery) with Microdebrider/Laser they would require long term nasal sprays and regular follow up
FESS with Microdebrider is better than Laser
After reading your post,I feel you do need FESS
I am based in Karachi
If you want to consult me,please contact MARHAM
Thanks

You seems to be confused by so many advices and you already had surgery in 2002
Let me summarize the further management :
1: You must see a good ENT Surgeon who is familiar with Endoscopic sinus surgery
2: After listening to your complains, He/She should do proper Endoscopic examination of your nose in the clinic under local anesthesia which is not painful
3: After proper assessment the doctor would decide whether you need medical treatment or endoscopic sinus surgery
4: If you have limited diseases then he may put you on medical treatment and would also do some allergy tests
5:
If you already had several medical treatment or you have extensive sinus disease then he would advice you surgery .
6: Before surgery you should have plain CT SCAN of your sinuses at least 3 mm cut coronal/ axial/ saggital view
7 : You should only go for scan if you have decided for surgery
If you are smoker then you should quit smoking
If you are exposed to chemicals/ fumes at work then you should avoid them
The surgery can be done as day care and you would not have any long nasal packs after surgery as they used to do it in old days
8: After surgery you have to come for regular follow up for at least 2 years and you would be on medicines for 1 to 2 months and nasal spray for 2 years
9: A good Endoscopic Surgery and proper postoperative topical nasal spray would prevent any recurrence
10 : The surgery would not change shape of your nose
Best of luck and take care

u can get appointnent through marham

Ok.. First of all let me stress on the fact that Nasal Polyps is a medical disease and not surgical .. initially it always try to be treated by Medicines .. about 70% of the times disease if not completely cured by medicine still it decrease the bulk which eventually requires for surgery.. I will not advice you to directly opt for surgical treatment without medical.. if you've not been taking proper medical treatment for last few months then you'll have to be put on it and then wait 3 weeks to get a fresh CT-Scan Nose & PNS Fess protocol .. and then decide whether to go for surgery or not ..
Secondly .. There's no such thing as Laser in nasal polyp surgery and no one in Pakistan is using it.. what you actually want is Endoscopic Surgery .. FESS ..
If in Lahore i can examine thoroughly and advise accordingly .. otherwise please consult a good ENT Surgeon in your vicinity .. You can call or whats app ..042-32591427, 33 for appointment .. regards

Are you referring to steriles (medicine)? I have tried them. They have side effects such as acidity, high BP and weakness. But polyp reemerged after some time. Therefore I abandoned them. Will you offer the same medicine?

Steroids are the treatment of choice medically .. but it has to be given in proper dosage and with other medications to take care of heart burn n etc .. it's never given alone .. medical polypectomy should always be sort out first n then if it fails then one should proceed to surgical intervention.. even if one wants to opt for surgical intervention still medication is required to decrease the disease bulk and operative bleeding .. and then one should proceed with FESS .. if you take an appointment it will be more suitable to discuss this in detail..
