Asking for Self, Male, 32 years old, Faisalabad
What herbs, foods, supplements, vitamins, minerals etc should be taken to prevent the diabetes in patients who are already Pre-diabetic & have metabolic syndrome? Age; 32, male, suffering from High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Pre-Diabetic taking drugs for above diseases and are well controlled. Already taking Glucophage 1g 1+1. Atorvastatin 20mg daily. Which statin is safe & doesn't alter glucose level or increase insulin resistance? I've read that pitavastatin has this property, is it true?
thanks
We recommend a diet which is low in carbohydrates and saturated fats, use of nuts (dry fruit) in small portion is encouraged, as well as fish oil. Modest weight reduction and calorie restriction 1200-1500kcal is encouraged. A routine of 50min excercise 5 days/week is recommended.
Initiation and choice of lipid lowering medication depends on cardiovascular risk profile. If indicated Atorvastatin is better as compared to pitavastatin as pitava is low potency, and usually used where patient doesnt tolerate other statins.

thanks Dr Awais for detailed reply. As far as Glucose is concerned, which statin doesn't increase glucose/insulin resistance b/w Atorva & Pitava? If Atorva increases glucose/insulin resistance then it is bad for me as I'm already pre-diabetic. If Pitava doesn't increases glucose/insulin resistance, then it is better for me. My lipids level are not too high. It usually remains under control while taking Atorva, when I'm not taking it, lipids rises again but not too high.
