Hello there,
It seems like he is suffering with Alopecia areata which is an autoimmune disease. Autoimmune means that the body's immune system attacks the body. When alopecia areata develops, the body attacks its own hair follicles. A person's genetic makeup, combined with other factors, triggers this form of hair loss.
Medical conditions that can cause hair loss include thyroid disease, alopecia areata (an autoimmune disease that attacks hair follicles), and scalp infections like ringworm.
Alopecia areata (AA) causes hair loss in small, round patches that may go away on their own, or may last for many years.
best to get him checked by a good dermatoligst to rule out any underlying treatable condition.
hope this helps.
thanks
