Asking for Mother, Female, 70 years old, Karachi

my mother is diabetic. And she uses dentures. Her denture had been a little tight for her for the past month and around ten days ago she started having severe pain in the tooth on which the denture sits. After a week of pain she developed a swelling around the tooth which is visible under the jaw and was tender to touch. She started on Augmentin 625 mg twice a day. It's fourth day. The swelling is not tender to touch anymore. The intensity of pain has decreased but she still gets bouts of pain for which panadol is providing temporary relief. As she is diabetic, hypertensive and also asthmatic, due to covid, we don't want her to go to dentist unless absolutely needed. Please guide if she absolutely has to visit the dentist or can this be managed at home with antibiotics or some other medication?

Aoa. Add tab Flagyl and Danzen two times a day with panadol for three days. It looks that Root Canal Treatment for the decayed tooth may be needed.

The tooth prognosis is not good. Patient ridge has resorbed (gum recession) and also root caries seen. We will check clinically the tooth mobility but as per picture the tooth needs to get extract after that the infection will subside and the swelling will get reduce. If patient is medically compromised doesn't matter it can be manage according to respective medical issues. If pain got relief with medication that's good, complete patients antibiotic course for 3 more days (as per 7 days course) and take pain killer (panadol) as needed. These medicines are safe for diabetic, hypertensive and asthmatic patients. So no need to visit dentist until it is manageable with medicines and yes if pain got unbearable and is not relieving with any medicines then you should visit to clinic. Thank you
