Asking for Mother, Female, 59 years old, Lahore
3 years pehle patient dil ki takleef hui aur 2 stents dale aur ab heart ki ye medicines le ri 1: Co Plavix 2: Rosubar 10mg Mera Question ye hain k aksar dr se suna hua k guidelines k mutabiq stents dalne k 1 saal k baad blood thinner sirf 1 kar dete hain kia ye baat theek hai ? aur agar theek hai tou humare dr still co plavix q continue karwa rae wo kehte k isko life time lena hai kia ye bat theek hai ? aur iska koi nuqsan hai ?
in some patients , if the risk of future heart events is more , then the doctor can continue with two blood thinners for longer periods of time. shaid apki mother ka case bhi thora high risk hu.
Yes U r right as per guideline we advise dual antiplatelet for 1 year after angioplasty. But after 1 year we switch patient on one drug mostly aspirin. Guideline also mention u can prolong both drugs depend on bleeding risk. U can contact with ur physician why he or she continue both drug. Tab.Co-plavix mein 2 drugs hn and other tab.rosubar m statin hai wo b life long lene hote hai..

The duration of antiplatelet therapy depend upon clinical scenario (heart attack Vs stable angina), type and number of stent, location of stents, patients bleeding risk Vs Coronary events risk and also the operators preference. Some cardiologists differ from the guidelines and prefer longer treatment with antiplatelets especially for young patients.
Yes you are right as per guidelines we advise only one blood thinner after one year of stenting preferably aspirin but sometimes you need to continue for longer duration depending upon severity of disease .sometime you can’t put stent in every vessel and patient having angina attacks frequently so dual blood thinner can be continued for longer duration if no contraindications
